Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) DevDays, 2019

Staff from the Health Informatics Office (HIO) successfully validated Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) application programming interfaces (APIs) at the 2019 FHIR DevDays, which was hosted by Microsoft in Seattle, Washington. The FHIR DevDays brings together health information technology (HIT) professionals from across the healthcare ecosystem together to learn, develop, and test FHIR standards. HIO staff worked with FHIR experts on reviewing and testing FHIR application programming interfaces (APIs) that HIO is developing to increase interoperability and data integration between three Department of Health (DOH) information systems — the Utah Statewide Immunization System (USIIS), the Electronic Death Registration Stem (EDEN), and the integrated surveillance system (EpiTrax). The development of these APIs will allow EpiTrax users access to more timely and accurate immunization and death data.
